Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

MICROBIOLOGY

The Department of Microbiology is well-equipped to diagnose the majority of infectious diseases affecting society. It provides diagnostic services to the hospital, as well as bacteriological examination of water, sterility inspections in operating rooms, in-house disinfectant testing, and hospital environmental surveillance. The diagnostic laboratory is well-equipped, including an automated Bact-Alert system for blood culture, turbidometry, a walk-in incubator and refrigerator, and biosafety cabinets. The department also has a molecular laboratory that performs RTPCR testing for SARS-CoV-2, Influenza, and viral load testing for HBV and HCV.

Infectious infections are still the most common reason people visit hospitals. The Microbiology Department determines the microbial species responsible for the sickness and conducts antibiotic susceptibility tests to help physicians make an informed antibiotic choice. Tuberculosis, cholera, diphtheria, typhoid, AIDS, viral hepatitis, dengue, urinary tract infections, endocarditis, rheumatic fever, scrub typhus, and other significant infectious diseases are routinely tested in laboratories. Our laboratory has the most effective diagnostic procedures for these infections, including culture, serology, and molecular approaches.
