COMMUNITY MEDICINE

Community Medicine, often known as Public Health or Social and Preventive Medicine, investigates health and illness patterns in specific areas or populations. Its goals include health promotion, disease prevention, community engagement, fair healthcare access, and a focus on disease epidemiology. Unlike other medical fields that primarily provide diagnostic and treatment services, community medicine lays a strong emphasis on preventive measures. The department's principal aims include educating and training undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD) students and interns in community-oriented health. The department also works with a variety of stakeholders to implement various national health programs. The department has long prioritised research in public and community health.
